6...months. One half of a year. How is this possible?!

April 2, 2014: Jack is 6 months old!

This is really late. That's because I have learned that life with a 6 month old is pretty non-stop. The only reason I am even able to get this post written is because I am sick and staying home from work. Which is really weird... the house...to myself...I can sleep all day? I don't even know how to deal with today. I'm sick... so I need to lay in bed and sleep. But cleaning and laundry and errands are crossing my mind. Who am I? ...a mom. But don't worry. I'm writing this post from my bed and plan to go to sleep as soon as I am done.

Anyway. Jack is AMAZING. I absolutely love this age. He is so active and playful and FUNNY! This kid has a serious sense of humor. That makes sense, knowing his Dad. He laughs at everything, including himself. Blows a raspberry - AHH! Toots - AHH! Throws a toy - AHHHH! Looks at Mom - AHH! Dad walks into the room - super AHH! He loves his Daddy. The second he sees him, his entire body lights up with glee. It's pretty incredible and gives me the warm fuzzies all over.

He has pretty bad allergies (like his Mom) and the poor guy sneezes and coughs all night. It wakes him up at night and he has a hard time going back to sleep... good thing for a little children's Benadryl! He also is drooling like crazy... but no teeth yet. I really hope he doesn't have my teeth. I have a lot of anxiety awaiting that little tooth to pop up.

I spent my first weekend away from Jack to go to a friend's wedding in Virginia. It was really great for me to have some alone time and I had an AMAZING time seeing all of my friends from high school and catching up... but by Sunday morning, I was seriously missing my little dude. I caught an earlier flight home to see him sooner, but when I got home he had a 102 fever and wasn't feeling well at all! But he had a great time with Dad and Grannci while Mom got a little time to herself :) Grandma came up for a week and a half as well...Jack was quite spoiled!!! He got to stay home from school all week and play all day! Grandma said she forgot how exhausting it is having a little guy around... she took quite a few naps.

Jack and Bowser are quickly becoming absolute best friends. Bowser waits outside of Jack's door in the morning and cries for us to wake him up. And when we go in, his tail wags so fast, his butt is going to fall off. Jack loves petting him and when he pulls his tail or hair, Bowser just gives him kisses. It melts my heart!

I really can't believe how quickly time is flying by. This time last year, I was just telling people I was pregnant. I had no idea how much my life would change in just a year. Everyday, I fall more and more in love with Jack. My family is my world. I truly believe that my place in this world was to be Jack's mom. He is the light of my life and makes me happier than anything else.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from this month :)

Couldn't look anymore like his Pops than he does here...

Doing a little early morning reading.

Clearly uninterested in tonight's read.

My big boy still loves to snuggle and fall asleep on me :)

Life is good.

Life works in funny ways. Things haven't always been easy, but I can say with absolute sincerity that this very moment is the exact picture I had of what my life at the age of 29 would look like.

Easter Sunday. We aren't religious, so this day represents happiness and family to us. Jack is taking his afternoon nap. Marc is planting flowers in the backyard and Bowser is helping him dig. I am laying on an adirondack chair with my feet on Jack's miniature adirondack chair in the deck basking in the sun while Snoop chases bumble bees.

Perfection.

My big 5 month old!

March 2, 2014: Jack is 5 months old!

Well, Jack made up for his lack of growth this month. Just by my estimates, the kid is huge. Those measurements aren't exact, and are probably a little low. I feel it in my back when I carry him. What a pork chop! We also have some REAL hair! It's very thin, and very blonde, so it doesn't show up in pictures much. But boy, it sure is growing. Marc jokes that he has even sprouted his first back hair. Being a mix of Bacon and Weldy, I can look past the joke and even consider it's validity.

Jack is SO MUCH FUN. He is so happy. His smile is painful. It's painful because it is impossible to emulate the happiness he exerts through his big beautiful eyes and that toothless smile. It makes you feel weak, helpless. BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH! He is such a hoot now. His personality is definitely showing through. He does this thing where he stares at you when you are talking to him, almost like he is judging you, then raises his eyebrows way high, almost like he is saying "JUST KIDDING! That really was a great story. I truly enjoyed it. I was just messing with you with that whole judging thing. You're great. Let's hug."

In all honesty, this month has kind of been a blur to me. Work is pretty awful and I get a mere hour with happy Jack before he conks out for the night... so I live for that hour. The weekends are awesome though! He is sleeping through the night from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM with a few pacifier pops
(this is difficult to write since now, on our way to 6 months, he is no longer sleeping through the night.) He started eating solids, and when I say solids, I mean gooey rice cereal and yummy bananas. It wasn't too difficult to get him to eat (again, Weldy/Bacon.) He does require a second spoon to play with, otherwise things get rather messy.

He is also very keen on his schedule. Get him one minute off, and you pay for it all night. I learned that the hard way one night... and I'll never do it again. I guess you can learn a lot from an infant. My bedtime has routinely been around 9:00 at night, and the quality of my day is much better. Although I don't get 4 hours of napping like he does.

Jack is also sitting (literally!) at the big boy table at daycare! That was an exciting thing for me to see... for a long time, when I drop him off, the other kids all sit at the cool table but Jack just wasn't there yet. Now, he's hanging with the wolf pack. I am really pleased with our experience at daycare. He loves his teachers and his friends. I've never once left him there feeling sad or guilty; he is always so happy to be there. Picking him up is always fun too, he smiles from ear to ear as soon as he sees you. But then he becomes a terrorist if you break his schedule. So beware.

We did have quite a few snow days this month... we got pretty antsy hanging out in the house for 5 days straight. This is when we got Jack onto a solid nap schedule. Is that worth the 30 minutes added to each school day? Undecided. But we got to play in some more snow (Jack was still unimpressed, he saw way more snow in Chicago for Christmas) and we did A LOT of snuggling and playing.

I can't believe my little monkey is almost 6 months old. Everyone always says that time goes by quickly... but seriously. Time is going by WAY too fast. I dislike the speed in which things are moving. I want him to be this age forever. But I know it is just going to get better and better every day :)

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from Jack's 5th month in our lives:
