This Christmas was surely an exciting one, as it was Captain Jack's first Christmas and we all got to meet cousin Henry! We did the 13 hour drive like we do every year, but since we had Jack with us, we chose to drive overnight so he could snooze and not cry the entire time. Best. Idea. Ever. He slept the entire time except once when we woke up to eat. Unfortunately, somewhere in Indiana, Marc got hit with the stomach flu, so I had to finish the entire drive. Once we got out of Chicago, we were driving in what seemed like an icy blizzard. Not the most fun part of the drive, especially with a hungry baby and a sick husband in the backseat.
Our first day there we had the entire family come by to meet the two boys. It was great, except the stomach flu hit me then. Our annual Christmas Eve photo shoot was quite fun this year, with the new additions!
The entire break was spent being quite lazy... we made a few trips though. We went up to Milwaukee to see Uncle Mike and into the city to see Nick and Jessica's new apartment. Unfortunately, the flu hit Mom and Dad too...
Jack got to meet Santa, too!! Since Jack loves to rub beards, Santa's must have really intrigued him...
The funniest part of the trip to me was that just a year before, true to Weldy tradition, all of us 'kids' were downstairs in the basement playing darts and pool and drinking copious amounts of heavy beers. This year consisted of baby bottles instead of beer bottles, pajamas instead of cute dresses and boots for Christmas Eve dinner, and "Grandma, can you watch the baby so we can nap?" instead of "I need to nap, I drank too much." from all of us. It's amazing what can change in a year. This Christmas was truly wonderful and special as we add to the family and make new memories. Next year will be even better as both of the boys will be just over 1 years old and then we will truly have a party!!
Here are some of my favorite pictures from the trip:

| A nap was definitely in order for these two. |
Now that we are almost done with the first month of 2014, it is fair to reassess one's New Year's resolutions. Mine? I had a few.
1) Get organized! I used to be a creepily too-organized teachery type, but a newborn will change that about you. Gotta get back to it.
2) De-clutter!!!!!
3) Most important... Go to work, teach, and go home. No more anxiety and stress over things I can't control at school. Bad news? Who cares. Keep teaching. More meetings? Whatever. Keep teaching. Anxiety attack due to a meeting just before classes begin? Pop a Xanax and keep going. It doesn't help anyone to be so out of control crazy over things I can't control. Not me, not my students, and not my family. We are in the business of teaching and learning, right?
Also, today is my birthday! Had a great birthday weekend. Thought I got over the plague, fell asleep at 9 on the couch on Friday, woke up in severe pain from an insane bout of sinusitis, got to the clinic early Saturday in hopes to feel better before birthday celebrations, lunch with the girlies at Vortex (OMG), then date night with Marc (Allie babysat!) at Fogo de Chao (OMG) and then off to Rose Bar to enjoy a Saturday night the way we did a year ago. The best part: I slept, uninterrupted, in the guest room, for 8 HOURS. Spent my actual birthday taking naps and shopping at Target with my little captain.
Speaking of a year ago, it was exactly one year ago today that we found out about Jack. Still, the best birthday gift ever. Can't believe that was a year ago... my, how life can change so quickly!!
Love,
Linds, Marc, Captain Jack & the doggies
